What is the process for Livescan Fingerprinting?
The live scan operator checks the applicant’s identification, inputs the applicant’s personal descriptor information, captures fingerprints electronically, and transmits the data to the DOJ. At the conclusion of the session, you should be provided an applicant transaction identifier (ATI) number, a number used to identify the transaction. The assignment of an ATI number, generated by the live scan device, does not necessarily mean the fingerprint images and personal information was submitted to the DOJ. Although the fingerprint images and personal information are to be transmitted to the DOJ within 24 hours, the actual transmission of the information to the DOJ is at the control of the live scan operator. Next, the applicant agency will receive a response sent electronically or via hard copy mail, depending on how the applicant agency requested to receive their responses.
Out of State Applicants
Applicants outside the State of California who are fingerprinting for an agency authorized by the DOJ, must be printed on a fingerprint hard card (FD-258).
How do I check my processing status?
To check on DOJ processing status, visit Cal-DOJ’s website (http://applicantstatus.doj.ca.gov) or email Applicantinfoservices@doj.ca.gov You will need to provide your name, date of birth, and ATI number (available after fingerprinting). Requesting Agency will receive Cal-DOJ results typically within a few hours (48 – 72) via Cal-DOJ’s email portal.
How Long Should the Live Scan Fingerprinting Process Take?
Your fingerprints will be submitted to CAL-DOJ immediately and typical turn around time is only a few hours, usually within 48 hours. However, some transactions can take several days due to poor fingerprint quality and on rare occasions when searching decades old fingerprint records are necessary, it can take up to a couple of weeks.
My Transaction Got Rejected, What Do I Do?
Contact Miller Tyme Notary Services, make an appointment to be re-fingerprinted. Re-fingerprints are free! However, the following applies:
You must contact Miller Tyme Notary Svcs within 30 days (14 days is recommended).
Rejection must be caused by poor fingerprint quality.
When re-fingerprinting, I recommend that you apply ample lotion to your hands throughout the day for at least one-week prior to re-fingerprinting.
